CANTONESE BREAKFAST
Small-batch Cantonese breakfast granola. Traditional ingredients rarely found anywhere else.
Our Approach
Inherited Knowledge
Weekend mornings at dim sum tables in Chicago — steam rising from bamboo baskets, fermented black soybean depth, hoisin's savory-sweet balance, fresh ginger's aromatic warmth. That was breakfast.
Cantonese breakfast was never in the granola category. Representation is seeing your traditions reflected accurately in what you eat every morning.
In August 2025, I made the first batch.
UMAMI GRANOLA is the first Cantonese breakfast granola — bringing both the savory umami of dim sum (點心) and the floral sweetness of tong sui (糖水).
Dim sum granola is our Dau-Si-Do blend — named for dau-si (豆豉), the fermented black soybeans that anchor the blend, alongside hoisin (海鮮醬) and fresh ginger (薑).
Tong sui granola is our Dragon-Eyed Wolf blend — named for the longan (龍眼), known as the "dragon eye" fruit, and the goji berries traditionally called wolfberries, finished with condensed milk (煉奶).
The Cantonese Palate
Cantonese culinary tradition holds two complexities in one cuisine — the savory umami of dim sum in the morning, and the floral sweetness of tong sui in the afternoon. Both sides, structured around the same culinary philosophy.
Granola has been one tradition. Honey, maple syrup, cinnamon — sweetness that has defined the category.
UMAMI GRANOLA brings the Cantonese palate to breakfast for the first time — both savory and sweet, the way the cuisine carries both.
Intention
My grandfather in Guangzhou chose 廣芝 (Guang Zi) before I was born — 廣 from Guangzhou, 芝 from Chicago. We never met. He gave me a name that holds both places.
UMAMI GRANOLA holds this same intention — Chinese and American, savory and sweet. Dau-Si-Do brings the savory Cantonese tradition forward. Dragon-Eyed Wolf brings the sweet.

UMAMI GRANOLA FAQ
UMAMI GRANOLA is the first Cantonese breakfast granola, with two small-batch blends from the culinary traditions of Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Dau-Si-Do, dim sum granola, brings savory umami depth from Cantonese breakfast tradition. Dragon-Eyed Wolf, tong sui granola, brings floral sweetness from Cantonese sweet soup tradition. Learn more about our approach.
Cantonese culinary tradition is specific, not broadly Asian, not broadly Chinese. The fermented depth of dim sum, the floral sweetness of tong sui, the ingredient knowledge passed through generations of Cantonese family kitchens. UMAMI GRANOLA was founded by a first-generation Cantonese American. This is not borrowed inspiration. This is the tradition. Read our philosophy.
Both, by design. Dragon-Eyed Wolf, tong sui granola, is floral sweetness. Dau-Si-Do, dim sum granola, is savory umami. The Signature Duo carries both.
Dragon-Eyed Wolf, tong sui granola, opens with the gentle tartness of goji berries, deepens into the caramel-like complexity of longan, and settles into the richness of condensed milk. Floral sweetness that layers and evolves.
Dau-Si-Do, dim sum granola, opens with the earthy depth of fermented black soybeans and hoisin, savory, complex, deeply satisfying. Fresh ginger lifts it with aromatic warmth. The fifth taste, the one that makes breakfast feel complete.
Every ingredient in UMAMI GRANOLA is selected by its founder, a first-generation Cantonese American with firsthand knowledge of these ingredients and the culinary traditions behind them. Discover the ingredients.
