UMAMI GRANOLA Now Available at Pearl River Mart Foods in Chelsea Market

First Cantonese breakfast granola enters its first NYC specialty retail placement

Last updated: July 28, 2026

NEW YORK, NY — July 28, 2026UMAMI GRANOLA, the first Cantonese breakfast granola, is now available on shelves at Pearl River Mart Foods in Chelsea Market, New York City. UMAMI GRANOLA's two debut blends, Dau-Si-Do and Dragon-Eyed Wolf, launched in-store this week.

The placement arrives as the U.S. umami flavors market is projected to reach $1.319 billion by 2030, growing at a 7.2% CAGR, according to Grand View Research.

Pearl River Mart opened in Manhattan's Chinatown in 1971, founded by Taiwanese immigrants Ming Yi and Ching Yeh Chen as a "friendship store" introducing Chinese culture broadly to New York. More than fifty years later, it remains one of the city's best-known homes for Asian American retail. UMAMI GRANOLA now brings something more specific into that space, following a direct-to-consumer launch in May 2026.

The Dau-Si-Do blend, made with fermented black soybeans (dau-si, 豆豉), hoisin, and fresh ginger, takes its name from dau-si and a nod to the do-si-do dance move, carrying both sides of founder Cindy Lam's Cantonese American upbringing in one name while honoring the Cantonese dim sum tradition.

The Dragon-Eyed Wolf blend, made with longan (龍眼), goji berries, and condensed milk, is named for longan's Cantonese "dragon eye" translation and goji berries, traditionally called wolfberries, honoring the Cantonese tong sui tradition of sweet soups.

"Growing up, I never saw my Cantonese traditions on the granola shelf. Putting UMAMI GRANOLA on the shelf at Pearl River Mart is the closest I'll get to giving my younger self this moment," said Cindy Lam, Founder of UMAMI GRANOLA.

The brand was recently featured in the South China Morning Post, covering Cindy's journey and why this cultural specificity matters.

An in-store tasting demo is planned at Pearl River Mart Foods on Saturday, September 19th, from 3-5pm.

UMAMI GRANOLA is now available in-store at Pearl River Mart Foods, lower level of Chelsea Market, 75 9th Avenue, New York, NY 10011, and online at umamigranola.com.
